Piotr is a lecturer and teacher trainer at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland. He does seminars and workshops for teachers of English in Poland and abroad. Piotr is also a consultant of ELT materials for young learners and teenagers. His interest include child development, classroom discourse and spoken language. Recently, he has decided to go back to the roots and bought himself a 1950s guitar replica which receives regular treatment in a duet with Piotr’s brother torturing his double-bass.
The Primary Washback
We’ve just had our first Egzamin Ósmoklasisty and the overall results seem to conform with the ones at higher levels of education (with some noble exceptions, though). In this talk I will look at the how the washback, understood as both teaching to the exam and addressing more problematic exam areas, may influence teaching practices. I will pay special attention to the techniques teachers may be resorting to in order to make their teaching more attractive and learner-friendly, at the same time attending to exam requirements.
